Has the Magic in Venice been tainted to Plastic trinkets?

MY FAVORITE LITTLE BAR IN VENICE

Has Cichetti and Ombras been replaced with Plastic trinkets in Venice?

Venice has been the most magical city for me. I would seriously hate to think that Venice's bright light and magical powers, which draws thousand of tourist every year, turn into store front, that only sells nothing but Japanese plastic trinkets, like Disney world. I had the rare opportunity last year to experience the real "Venice", thanks to Shannon and Ruth's book, "Chow Venice"

Since are trip to Venice and Italy, my favorite little restaurant " Alle Botteghe Osteria" in Venice, stopped serving from their little widow bar, finger food, called "CICHETTI". Thus the times have changed and the magical little bar has vanished and this place now only serves dinner. What a shame. What made this place so unique was the window bar full of little bites of food in white dishes. You could pick from grilled round plump baby squid, grilled veggies, pasta dishes and little rice balls and to wash down all these little morsels of food , you could get a two finger shot glass of white wine called an Ombra to wash all the little goodies down.

When we found this little treasure, tucked in a corner, away from all the tourist, rich in tradition, we came up on several older gentlemen, who maybe have lived all their lives in Venice, par taking in a ritual that only Italian men can do, stand around in the best kept secret pub, (which I think this tradition has been handed down from father to son, from one generation to the next), sharing a cigarette, a little ombra and some local fine Cichetti.

They are long past working years, retired and looking for friendship to pass the day away. This is what Italy is known for, the passing of time, slow and methodical. If this world becomes lost to tradition, and is replaced with plastic trinkets, in store front windows, we as humans have done the biggest disservice to our heritage and any one who loves Italy. This will be beyond my comprehension. We as a nation need to bring back tradition and I hope Venice never looses its magical spell that was cast over me so many years ago!
